Department Focus

The Pupil Welfare Department is committed to drive and implement effective character development programmes for all Yusoffians. The school’s character development plan and programmes adopt a 3E Framework which seeks to empower students by instilling values, equip them by imparting skills and enable them by providing opportunities for life applications.

Character Education in Yusof Ishak Secondary School (YI) is aligned to the school's vision: The First President School, an institution that nurtures Scholars, Sportsmen and Statesmen. Students model after the key attributes of Mr Yusof Bin Ishak, The First President of Singapore, and acquire values like respect, resilience, responsibility, compassion, confidence and integrity, which are the core values of the school.

One of the school’s key goals is to develop “Yusoffians as President Men and Ladies”. Towards this end, the school is deeply committed to developing all Yusoffians to be self-disciplined and morally upright.

The Yusoffian Spirit

The Pupil Welfare Department is also dedicated to develop a strong Yusoffian Spirit in the YI Community. The Yusoffian Spirit is the passion and zeal of being part of a notable institution that nurtures Scholars, Sportsmen and Statesmen.

It gives students a strong sense of pride and deep sense of attachment to YI. It is the great feeling of belonging to a school named after our Nation’s First President, Mr Yusof Bin Ishak.

The Yusoffian Spirit promotes camaraderie that connects every Yusoffian together and spurs them on to give their best to uphold the good name of the Yusoffian Family. It cements Yusoffians near and far, past and present, old and young, in a shared purpose and common resolution to build a good reputation and establish a fine standing for the school.
